Butterflies hold a special place in my heart. Growing up my brother and I collected butterflies and studied them. I used to know the scientific names of them and which caterpillars would turn into which butterflies. Yes, we caught them, fed them, watched them go through their cycle and sometimes killed them to stretch them out and admire them even in frames. Those were good memories running around the fields in the summer with our nets and looking for something we did not have in our collection yet.
I am a naturalist, Physical Therapist and photographer. I have integrated my skills in these areas to produce images from nature that create feelings of calm and well-being. As a new graduate in 1995, I traveled across the United States as a Physical Therapist with my first film camera. I experimented with lens filters that I made from tinted cellophane wrapped in embroidery hoops to observe the effect on sunsets and the hues of the ocean. Over the years, I have deepened my appreciation for imagery that rekindles in me the emotion of past memorable moments. The natural environment continues to evoke wonder and awe for me in places near and far, from my backyard in Royal Oak, MI all the way to Tasmania, Australia. I am a Doctor of Science...
